In 2013, the company’s primary product was launched on Kickstarter. The company describes their design aesthetic as ”streamlining daily life through quality products redefining the everyday essentials-like wallets, backpacks, and chargers - with minimalist designs that don’t sacrifice function.” The wallet weighs only two ounces and holds no more than 12 cards and a few dollar bills. They created a slimline alternative, made from aluminum, carbon fiber and titanium. The company, The Ridge, was launched by a father-son team of founders, Daniel and Paul Kane, who were sick of their overstuffed wallets crammed with too many cards. This has led to several image macro memes mocking the ads, particularly on /r/okbuddyretard (examples shown below).Ridge Wallet is the accessory that YouTubers can’t get enough of. On October 11th, YouTuber Foekoe posted a video parodying how ads for the game were all over YouTube, gaining over 385,000 views (shown below). For example, it appeared in a May 18th, 2019 video about League of Legends streamers by Hi Im Coconut (shown below, left) and a JonTron video posted April 15th, 2019 (shown below, right).
Online, the game has been a sponsor of many popular YouTube videos, leading viewers to get irritated at the ubiquity of its ads. Pocket Gamer also praised the game's graphic quality.
Gamezebo wrote that the game's art-style of dark fantasy instead of anime style typical of gacha games. Each of the 300 collectible characters features unique motion-capture animations produced exclusively in Plarium’s in-house studio to create distinctive character traits and personas." According to Venture Beat, the game, "(offers) one of the most unified game experiences in the collection RPG genre. A trailer for the game released a month prior (shown below). The game was released on August 2nd, 2018.
